My Tribe
I have heard throughout my life that it takes a tribe to raise a child. I am quickly learning this is true and with twins, it takes an entire chiefdom. Add micro-preemies on top of that, we need a small country! Going through this adventure, I have definitely learned who has been there for us and who has been a selective support and who has just left.
You may feel that you have strong connections with people, and they are extremely supportive of you and when things get tough, they get to steppin'. It is very heartbreaking to experience. When we got admitted into the hospital, I lost some people who I thought were my friends and supports. We did gain new, genuine ones as well.
As a new mom, I am choosing who I want to be in our tribe and who I want my girls to be influenced by. Some of those people have to earn that right. I feel extremely blessed to have a crew who has been behind me 100%, 100% of the time. These are my people. Here's a shoutout to two of them!
*My husband has been my hero and my rock through not only this adventure but the adventures that have occurred in the past. He has been one of the best things to happen to me. He has kept me grounded and rational. Yes, not everything is perfect, and I wouldn't want it to be, but at the end of the day, he's still the one that I will go to and we are a team. Also, he's an AMAZING father.
**My sister has been beyond anything that I could have ever asked for. She was my assistant when I was in the hospital, my chauffer when I couldn't drive, my home when I had nowhere to stay and has been just an amazing sounding board and overall counselor at times. She is also an AMAZING aunt.
There are several other people who have been there during this time, but I would have to write a small novel, which is a great problem to have!
I encourage others to find your tribe, find your people, your true people. It has been one lesson I have had to learn, mostly the hard way. I want to instill into my girls that they are worthy of love and belonging and find those people who provide that.
